- I bought the four terabyte extreme SSD by SanDisk and I will never again and after watching this video you might not want to either now don't get me wrong this is not a hate video I used to love SanDisk I was a loyal customer for over a decade I have a lot of their SD cards as well as external hard drives and then last year I decided to invest in one of these this is the two terabyte SSD it performs really well it treated me very well so for me it was a no-brainer to then also invest in the four terabyte version as I had a few trips coming up and with this kind of work you need a lot of storage space so I went on to Amazon saw this great deal only 400 bucks instead of 800 bucks got one and man was I wrong the four terabyte SSD failed within a couple of days after I bought it I had just transferred 1.7 terabyte let me repeat that 1.7 terabyte of files for my MacBook to my SSD few days later I mounted the SSD to my MacBook and it said zero there were zero files on my SSD now obviously I started to panic I even tried the Disk Utility app on my MacBook and it still said zero files I was so frustrated and I was in full panic mode at that moment and I know what you must be thinking Leela you should have just backed it up to your Nas and yes I should have however in that point in time I had a bunch of deadlines I didn't have the time to back everything up so I just thought I would move all of the files to the SSD and these ssds look at them they are tiny they're meant to be used remotely and when you're working remotely you also don't always have the chance to back everything up and let's just be really real the SSD is worth 800 bucks hey editing Lila here I just wanted to rectify this really quickly it's not 800 bucks it's actually 500 bucks it's just falsely advertised on Amazon for whatever reason can we just expect that it's not going to fail within a few days after using it if at all anyway I treat it about it because I needed some help as I was again in panic mode and to my surprise there were actually a lot of people who had the exact same issue just to clarify my experience is with the four terabyte extreme SSD but I've seen people that have the exact same issue with the extreme Pro SSD at the same time of tweeting this asking for a solution I also reached out to SanDisk both via email as well as Twitter DMS because I was desperate and I needed my files back after a few days I finally got a reply from SanDisk via email and this is what they had to say please know that we have no reports of the four terabyte variant of the extreme portable drive being prone to failure on the contrary the extreme portable hard drives are very reliable I do understand your findings and all the things you have pointed out however I personally found this email a little bit strange especially since there are so many other people with the exact same issue and since then which is now almost two months ago I have seen so many more tweets about it I've seen more experiences and I've even gotten a few DMS from people saying that they've had the same issue with the same SSD there are a lot of people including some creators who are speaking up about this publicly that they will never be using SanDisk drives again despite SanDisk saying that everything is working fine which clearly it isn't anyway if we quickly Circle back to my story which happened in February after I got that response which wasn't very helpful for me I still didn't have my 1.7 terabytes of files that I really needed now one of the suggestions that I got was to obviously use a data recovery app so I decided to purchase it which made this whole Fiasco even more expensive but you know it had to be done I bought it it worked I was able to get all of my files back and I really hope that you're not gonna need it but if you do my recommendation will be in the description because it's only happened a few days after I bought it and I literally got no help from their customer service I was just like it I'm just gonna return it at this point this drive is useless anyway because my trust is completely gone so I filed a complaint with Amazon I told them that the drive had failed and I got a full refund yay at the time of this recording we have now progressed about two months in time and I'm no longer using SanDisk ssds except for this one the two terabyte one because it hasn't filled me yet but honestly I have a little bit scared to use it so if you don't want to get SanDisk ssds what should you get well I have now moved on to Samsung this is the two come on come on this is the two terabyte t7 and it has performed really well like it's working really well it's very fast highly recommend it there will be a link in the description also when you look at both of them together they're pretty much the same one is a little bit fatter one is a little bit taller but there's not a big difference I'm not saying that if you have or if you're going to get the four terabyte extreme or extreme Pro SSD that this is going to happen to you I just wanted to make you aware that this is an issue that hasn't just only happened to me but also a lot of other people there seems to be a bad batch so I'm not sure if they can just fix it and all the other batches will be fine however I just really want you to make an informed purchasing decision also this is not a hate video there's no beef between me and SanDisk I just again really want to help you because as creators or just as people who use portable ssds to store files those files are invaluable again if you are looking for a portable SSD solution my recommendation is the Samsung t7 highly recommended link will be in the description did that work I don't think that worked but
